STOP! HAMMER TIME! #2 - Upgrading to FreeBSD 6.2

FreeBSD Logo

Now It’s time to get your hands on upgrading that old version of your FreeBSD. There is a lot of documentation on this subject, but I’d like to give my shot, since it’s fresh in my mind and I’ve already started. I’ll be exploring the new features available on 6.2-RELEASE for upgrading in the next few days, inc. csup and freebsd-update in order to find out if it fits or improves my need when I have to deal with this.

So let’s play God.

David Seah Compact Calendar

David Seah's Compact Calendar

It’s been a while since I’ve been reading David Seah’s website and using his productiviy tools a.k.a. Printable CEO.

I’m using The Emergent Time Tracker to keep up with my daily work, rest breaks, etc. The Concrete Goals Tracker I use for daily/weekly bird’s eye on my productivity. And finally I use the Task Order Up! To keep up to the task. Of course I’m not marking bubbles every 15 minutes. I usually do it before the hourly rest-breaks or micro-breaks.

David as already updated some of his tools to 2007, including the Compact Calendar. And… that’s why I’m writing this article.

David Seah is the best to describe what is Compact Calendar for:

I use this calendar template for project estimating. It’s compact, easy to print, and most importantly allows me to visualize time as blocks. I usually just circle the starting dates of a task, then run a line out to the right side where I can make a note as to what it is. With the amount of whitespace available on the right, there’s plenty of room to leave notes. After I’m done, I then either make a clean version with another sheet of paper, or type up the dates right on a copy of this spreadsheet

Compact Calendar

But do as you please.

So, I’ve decided It was time to give back some light and I adapted Compact Calendar to European Portuguese. A part from translation It includes all the Portuguese Official Holidays. At wikipedia you may find your local holidays. So hack your calendar as you please.

Because I don’t use Excel (Atchim!!) I edited David’s Calendar with Open Office and made some versions of it:

Do as you please, you’re free to try it…. Just do it :)

Dave. Thank you :)

Happy 2k7

Maybe I get the feeling that this article is a little late but I’ve been kinda busy trying to close some open loops from last year.

No. It is never to late :).

Its never to late to wish everyone a very nice and adventurous full of action year. I wish that everyone can accomplish their goals for this year. Even if it looks difficult, DO IT with a smile (I’m saying this because I’m trying to drop the Portuguese Syndrome Of Fado). Here are 7 tips to get yourself wet on feeling good:
  • Do good, feel good – Each day do something to put a smile on someones face. Call, SMS, anything;
  • Jump of bed and work your body for a Rocket jump (let your imagination floooowww…);
  • Act as you want to feel – Even on those hard days, act a smile on your face, or do/think about anything makes you feel good. Suffering is useless, carpe diem
  • Low in light? “Borrow” some;
  • Do what scares you;
  • Have big “phun” with your friends and family;
  • Sleep tight, have a Cup O’Rooibos :).

In an easy and relaxed manner, in a healthy and positive way, in its own perfect time, for the highest good of all, I intend to live 2007 with a smile, fulfilled with goal achievement. I intend this to come into my life and into the lives of everyone who holds this intention.

Happy 2k7 to you all. May your wishes come true!
